Ceramic Portraits
A photographic image reproduced on a separate ceramic or porcelain plaque, mounted onto the memorial. Oval and rectangular options may be available.
Photographs are illustrative examples of traditional memorial techniques and are not presented as Magic Memorials installations.
A beautifully traditional memorial can tell a deeply personal story. Discover classic granite headstones, elegant lettering, ceramic portraits, laser etched imagery, sandblasted designs and carved details, all without full colour MMIT imaging.
Choose something simple and understated or add the personal touches that mattered most. Our team can help you create a fitting tribute, with professional design previews before you order.
Traditional headstones remain a beautiful and meaningful choice. A classic polished granite memorial with carefully chosen lettering may be exactly right. Equally, a carved flower, a favourite symbol or a portrait can make a traditional memorial unmistakably personal.
We offer a range of memorial shapes and granite finishes, with options selected to suit your family, budget and the rules of the burial ground.

Choose from classic lawn headstones, ogee tops, hearts, books, cremation tablets and other permitted shapes. Popular options include polished black granite, grey granite and selected coloured granites. The shape, finish and size provide the foundation for everything that follows.
Memorial dimensions, materials and permitted finishes depend on the cemetery or churchyard. We confirm suitability before manufacture.
A traditional headstone can include a photograph without using MMIT. We can discuss ceramic or porcelain portrait plaques in oval or rectangular formats, alongside monochrome portraits etched directly into suitable polished granite. The right choice depends on the desired appearance, stone finish and memorial design.

Fine tonal detail created on suitable polished granite. Typically monochrome, with the stone itself forming the background.

Laser etching can also depict meaningful landscapes, animals, buildings, vehicles and other artwork, subject to suitability and image quality.
Illustrative images demonstrate subjects rather than finished memorial products. Final portrait quality depends on the supplied photograph and selected technique.

Sandblasting is an established method of creating recessed lettering and artwork in granite. A carefully prepared stencil protects the surrounding stone while an abrasive process cuts the inscription or design into the exposed surface.
Names, dates, dedications, borders, crosses and selected motifs can be produced using this technique. Depending on the design, lettering can be finished in gold, silver, white or other suitable finishes.
We'll help you choose lettering styles, spacing and layout so the finished memorial feels balanced, legible and respectful.
Laser etching can create intricate tonal artwork on suitable polished granite, particularly darker stones. It is often used for portraits, pets, favourite places, vehicles and delicate decorative images.
Unlike a separate ceramic portrait, laser etched artwork is created on the stone surface itself. It produces a different appearance from deeply recessed sandblasting and is not the same as MMIT full colour imaging.
We assess image quality, placement and the chosen granite before recommending the most suitable technique.

Carving adds physical depth and character to a memorial. Depending on the stone and design, carved flowers, crosses, shaped edges and relief details can create a timeless tribute.
Unlike surface etching, carving changes the form of the stone. It can be subtle and elegant or a more prominent feature of the memorial itself.
Our team can discuss appropriate carved details and specialist manufacturing options for your chosen memorial.
You don't need full colour imagery to create a personal memorial. A carefully chosen verse, an etched pet portrait, a carved rose, a meaningful emblem or a beautifully arranged inscription can capture what mattered most.
For full colour imagery across the memorial surface, visit our MMIT technology page. Traditional memorials on this page do not require MMIT.
